This publication was created for Advanced Publication Design, during my final semester at Champlain College. The assignment was to create a companion catalog with an gallery of American art at Shelburne Museum. The exhibit is named painting a nation and contains a unique blend of traditional American art from artists from the Hudson River School combined with folk art from around the entire United States. The collection contains work from Albert Bierstadt and Thomas Cole as well as lesser known folk artists.
This project provided a rare opportunity to work within the brand guidelines and visual identity of a established museum. It was also a privilege to be provided with the assets provided to my class by Shleburne Museum, and it became very challenging to coordinate the sizing of the various forms of artwork. Issues with altering the projection of the work also was something I wrestled with while working on this publication. My design solution for this catalog was creating a top section where the captions of each piece of art can be displayed to accommodate more space for the work of art to occupy. I also created a printers mark for each caption, taken out of Shelburne Museum’s logo. I learned so much working on this project on every aspect of process, from concept to presentation.
